About the Role:

We're looking for a Payments-focused Senior Solutions Engineer who understands the card ecosystem end-to-end. You'll work with businesses building complex payment stacks to help them design secure, scalable architectures that leverage Basis Theory's programmable vault.

This is a senior-level, pre-sales + customer facing technical role.

You'll own technical discovery, lead solution design conversations, and guide enterprise clients from first conversation through successful onboarding. If you've implemented card tokenization, integrated with PSPs, worked through PCI scope discussions, or supported payment migrations, we'd love to talk to you.

What You'll Do:

Technical Discovery & Deal Execution

  • Lead deep technical discovery with enterprise prospects to understand their payment architecture, compliance posture, and integration requirements
  • Collaborate with AEs on deal strategy and translate technical complexity into business value for non-technical buyers and win technical trust with developers
  • Build and run product demos tailored to customer payments workflows
  • Create proof-of-concepts and integration prototypes that accelerate technical buy-in

Solution Design & Payments Authority

  • Design and present solution architectures that map Basis Theory to customer use cases
  • Serve as the payments domain authority in the room. Articulate trade-offs between network tokens, vault tokens, PSP-side tokenization, and hybrid approaches
  • Guide customers through POC and testing as part of their technical evaluation

Product & Market Influence

  • Serve as the voice of enterprise prospects back to Product and Engineering, surfacing recurring friction points, feature gaps, and new use cases
  • Contribute to go-to-market materials, technical content, and enablement resources

Required Commercial Experience

  • 8+ years in a pre-sales SE, solutions architect, or solutions consultant role carrying a number alongside AEs
  • Track record supporting enterprise deals, ideally with a named methodology
  • Proven ability to run technical discovery and solution design with enterprise customers, and to own the technical win: qualifying out early, building mutual action plans, driving POCs to a decision on technical credibility and fit
  • Comfortable being the technical voice in front of a CFO and a VP Eng in the same meeting, and framing technical narratives for a commercial audience
  • Experience navigating security, compliance, and procurement review as part of a deal cycle

Required Technical Experience

  • Hands-on experience integrating with PSPs, gateways, acquirers, or card networks
  • Deep understanding of the card lifecycle, payment flows, and supporting infrastructure
  • Experience implementing tokenization or vaulting solutions
  • Strong API fluency: REST, auth patterns, and webhook-based event-driven payment flows
  • Experience designing secure payment architectures across frontend and backend
  • Working knowledge of PCI DSS and compliance scoping
  • Full-stack experience in any language

Desired

  • Network tokenization
  • Payment orchestration platforms
  • Risk and fraud tooling
  • Experience designing high-availability, low-latency payment systems

Why Basis Theory?

Basis Theory is at an inflection point. We've got a growing enterprise customer base, fresh funding, and a unique position at the intersection of payments infrastructure and agentic commerce. You'll work with great people on genuinely hard problems with sophisticated customers, and you'll directly influence how the product evolves as we grow.
